I enjoy working with markers, cardboard, and brown paper because I find them easy to handle and manipulate, but also I like that they are mundane and familiar materials. By shifting the context of these materials from our daily environment to the gallery I hope to elevate them from throw-away material into objects that are taonga (precious), vibrant and have a whakapapa (genealogy).
